I’m confused! How come the younger they are, the more they think they know, and the older they get, the less they think they can do?
Kenzie is four years old now. She won’t be a toddler much longer and I still like to “baby” her around.
But since she’s four, that means she can do anything, without any help or assistance…so she thinks!
“Let me help you get dressed.”
“I can do it myself!”
“Let me open that juice box for you.”
“I can do it myself!”
“Let me help you out of the car.”
“I can do it myself!”
Now, Kaleb is just the opposite. He’s going to be in kindergarten next school year and I want him to learn to be more independent and responsible.
But for some reason, he can’t do anything himself…so he says!
“It’s time to get dressed.”
“I can’t put on my pants. I need some help!”
“It’s time to get ready for bed.”
“I can’t get my pajamas on. I need some help!
“It’s time to clean up.”
“I can’t pick up these toys by myself. I need some help!”
I think I know what’s really happening here. It’s toddler subversion, a Pre-K conspiracy, a tike takeover!
It’s an organized effort to confuse me, to cause me to question my own authority and my ability to manage and govern this home.
Then, while I am in a state of confusion, they will wrest control of our home from me and take charge of our family. They will do what they want and not do what they don’t want. And make me do all the work.
Wait a second. That’s the way things operate around here now! Their plan must be working..
