It’s Complicated!

As I mentioned in the last post, I recently made a long road trip to another state to attend my sister-in-law’s funeral.

Because the road trip would be long and quick, it would be difficult for the kids to endure. And, most of the time there would be spent visiting with family and attending funeral-related activities that they were too young to participate in.

So I asked my long-time friends Chris and Linda to stay with Kaleb and Kenzie at our house for three days and they agreed to do it.

As you might imagine, I was somewhat apprehensive about going away and leaving the children for three days.

But, I made the necessary arrangements at work and left on Monday morning after dropping the children off at daycare. Chris and Linda would pick them up that evening.

I didn’t have the opportunity to meet with Chris and Linda before I left. And, I didn’t even get a chance to write down all the necessary instructions for them to follow.

As you know if you read this blog regularly, the children and I have a terrific life together. Yes, it’s quite an adventure!

But it’s also complicated!

So there were a lot of instructions I needed to leave with Chris and Linda!

But with all the advantages of modern communication technologies, I knew I could just text the instructions to them at the appropriate time over the next three days.

And, since there were a lot of instructions, I decided it would be better for me to give them guidance a little at a time so they wouldn’t forget. For instance, I would text them the bathing and bedtime instructions after they picked the children up from daycare each evening.

After all, Chris and Linda are not as young as they used to be…

So I started texting them with the first set of instructions soon after I got on the road. Our conversation went like this:

P.S.: When I returned on Wednesday evening, the kids appeared to be happy, well-fed, clean, and ready for bed. Amazingly, Chris and Linda handled my complicated life for three days without any instructions from me!

  1. My Cousin Jeannie emailed me this comment: Just read the latest. That gave me a “Belly Laugh”. That is one of the best you have ever put on. Linda told you what I tried to say in my earlier post. Tell her that I admire her frank approach. Any way, (as the teens say), COOL IT ! ! Enough said…..
