Tonight an amazing thing happened. I got to the end!
“The end of what?” you ask.
“The end of the work!” I explain.
I got to the end of the work before the end of the day!
I finished washing, drying, and folding clothes. The clean clothes are all put away. I finished washing the dishes. The clean dishes are all put away. I’ve prepared lunches for tomorrow. I’ve picked up everything around the house. I’ve bathed kids, read them a book, said the prayers and put them to bed. And the kids are asleep or almost asleep.
I don’t recall ever having this experience. I don’t recall ever finishing. There’s always something else to do. I never get finished. I usually just stop.
Tonight, I somehow reached the end. I got finished and it’s just 8:00 pm. And, there’s still a few hours before I usually go to bed!
So, what can I do with my extra time?
“Why not go to bed early and get a good night’s sleep?” you suggest.
“No way! I’m not using my extra time sleeping!” I declare.
“Then do something YOU want to do,” you recommend.
Suddenly, I know exactly what it is I want to do.
“I’m not going to do anything, I’m going to do nothing!” I submit.
“I want to see what it feels like to have nothing to do, to do N-O-T-H-I-N-G, NOTHING!” I proclaim.
So, I certainly don’t want to waste my time doing nothing by sleeping. And I definitely don’t want to spend my time doing nothing by doing something I like.
But most of all, I’m not going to think about something I should be doing because there’s always something I need to do.
That’s right. Tonight I’m spending the next few hours doing nothing and I’m going to enjoy every minute of it!
