Girls Night Out

As the toddlers are getting older, their lives are starting to go in different directions from one another. I made much of this fact in the Back To School series.

As they become involved in other activities, some things aren’t for both three- and four-year olds and some things aren’t for both boys and girls.

On Wednesday nights Kaleb has started going to the Awana program at church, which starts with four-year olds. Since Kenzie is too young to go to Awana, Conner and Kenzie are having a “Girls Night Out!”

For their first night out, Conner took Kenzie to have a toddler mani-pedi…

WE GIRLS NEED SOME TIME TO OURSELVES! PURPLE IS PRETTY, BUT I WANT PINK WITH SPARKLES!
THIS IS NICE, I THINK I NEED ONE EVERY WEEK! DEMO-ING THE NEW NAILS…YOU GO GIRL!

So, you think it’s time to get the ears pierced?

  1. Lots of differing opinions here. As you know, Bob and I had three boys so we didn’t “live” through this, but I think anytime is OK for getting ears pierced……even lots of babies have them pierced…….I was over 40 when mine were done because my mom said only “ladies of the evening” got theirs pierced! She died at 93 complaining about her clip earrings every time she wore them! lol I could NEVER convince her times had changed!! My personal opinion on make-up is wait until junior high at least unless it’s play dress-up or costume day, but I think she’s still too young for a day-to-day basis. You are doing a GREAT job, Poppy! cjt

  2. Funny story, Carol Jean. I seem to remember my grandmother and mother having those clip earrings…they looked like it would be more painful to wear them than to get your ears pierced! Sounds like a good idea on the make-up, let it just be for occasional play…thanks for your suggestion.

  3. This seems to be the growing consensus, Judy. I guess “when” is the main issue for ear piercing as it seems that she can’t be messing with it and try to pull it out like she still does with her hair clips…thanks for your feedback.

  4. I think ear piercing is ok, if she wants them. I was around that age when I got mine. Make-up…I’d say the play stuff is pretty harmless. But I think you definitely need to let her be the one to decide if she wants it or not. And I’d follow up with a talk about play make-up being for play time if she does ask for it. As someone who works for a ministry that works with teenage girls, I’d also stress that you need tell her how beautiful she is with and without make-up. It starts when they are this age. Our culture tells us that we are only pretty when”____”. If Poppy tells her she is beautiful (and means it) when she’s covered in mud and when she’s wearing pretty stuff, it will do so much for her self-confidence later. Plus, if Poppy makes her feel like a princess, she’s more likely to believe the Truth about God claiming she is His too.

  5. Great comments, Courtney, and I do very much want her to grow into a confident young woman that doesn’t need make-up to feel that she is lovely and loved. Your remarks are a good reminder of how important my affirmations can be for her emotional and spiritual development….thanks for sharing.
